Kempton Park is one of the largest towns on the East Rand of Johannesburg, Gauteng. It was established in 1903 when the farm Zuurfontein was sub divided by Karl Wolff, who named the new village Kempten after the Bavarian town of his birth.
Kempton Park is home to Africa’s busiest Airport, OR Tambo International. Thanks to the close proximity to the airport there is also large industrial zone in the Isando, Spartan areas, home to a large number of multinational corporations.
Kempton Park is conveniently situated making it the Town of choice for people working in the Johannesburg CBD, Centurion, eastern parts of Tshwane, far east of Johannesburg and even, as a result of it boasting its own Gautrain station, the affluent northern Johannesburg suburbs. The bustling Sandton CBD is a fuss-free 20 minute commute away.
The city has seven major high schools (secondary schools). The Kempton Park Golf Course, first designed in 1965, in Spartan is famous for being the club where Ernie Els learnt how to play golf.
